Origin Story

There are no radioactive spiders, no billions in the bank to build a high-tech suit or a Batcave, I’m not from Krypton or Asgard…

Despite wanting to be a superhero all through primary school (and most of secondary school), there came a point to make a realistic career choice. On the sound career advice of “yeah, but what future do computers and the internet have really?”, I applied to study Medicine and spent a fantastic 6 years at UCL, a place that really fed my appetite for asking questions and eternal learning.

Living in London for 6 years was an experience I will never forget and would recommend it to anyone who hasn’t done it.

After completing my Foundation Training in Oxfordshire, I moved to Lancaster with my wife and we had 2 fantastic children. To add a little more chaos to the mix we added two beautiful Hungarian Vizslas - we now have just the right level of chaos.

After 5 years of being a GP in Lancaster, I made the difficult decision to step down as a partner to focus on complete a Masters in Computer Science with the University of Hertfordshire. This really was a fantastic experience, especially for my confidence. I had completed may online tutorials on Ruby, Python, C#, Html, CSS, Javascript and various javascript libraries, but it wasn’t until I did the MSc that I really understood how to apply these languages.

However, I never completed the MSc, before I could complete it a fantastic opportunity presented itself at Lancaster University. I get to continue my Clinical practice, teach at the University and complete a PhD in Digital Health with some amazing support.

So, here I am, 6 months into my position, it is going to be an exciting journey, and I’m privileged to share it with my family.
